Emergency Food Box**
The Emergency Food Box program offered by Second Harvest Food Bank is a vital lifeline for individuals and families facing sudden and severe food insecurity.
The "Emergency Food Box" program offered by Second Harvest Food Bank is a crucial and immediate response to the urgent needs of individuals and families facing food insecurity. This program is designed to provide essential sustenance to those in crisis situations, ensuring they have access to enough food to last for 2-3 days.
**This program is currently on hold while we are renovating our warehouse facility. We will update neighbors when the program is scheduled to resume.
Drive-Thru Pantry
Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we no longer have an in-person pantry. However, we do offer our drive-thru distribution on Wednesday and Friday from 12-2pm. Here you can drive through our alley and safely receive an array of food, placed directly in your vehicle. We also offer pick-up Monday thru Friday from 9am-3pm by visiting our alley for pick-up.
Please note: Pick-up times are not available during the distribution time frame on Wednesday and Friday from 12-2pm.

Mobile Distributions
Our mobile pantry is designed to allow neighbors to come up to a pop-up shop style distribution where they can choose which foods they are receiving for their household. Being a mobile truck, we are able to go across all three counties, especially targeting more rural areas where the need is greater. Senior Program (CSFP)
Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) is a federally funded program for people who are 60+ years of age and whose household income is 130% or less of the federal poverty guidelines. Each month we provide a 40 lb. box of nutritious food to over 1,300 seniors throughout Clark, Champaign, and Logan Counties.Click hereto see if you qualify for CSFP.
Participants who meet income guidelines will receive a monthly food package that includes items such as canned meat, vegetables, fruits, fruit juices, potatoes, and hot and cold cereal. According to the USDA, these packages do not provide a complete diet, but provide a good source of nutrients that is typically lacking in the diets of senior citizens.

WHY IS SNAP IMPORTANT?
SNAP provides families with their basic nutritional needs to get them through temporary hard times. It helps people get back on their feet and on the road to a better life — in 2015, SNAP lifted 4.6 million Americans above the poverty line, including 2 million children and 366,000 seniors. Moreover, SNAP helps to ensure that children are given a fair chance at healthy adulthood, that seniors age with dignity and that family can care for themselves. SNAP is absolutely critical to making sure no one in America goes hungry.
On top of that, SNAP supports America’s economy and creates jobs. Research from Moody’s Analytics suggests that for every dollar spent by SNAP, 1.7 dollars are added to the economy. A 2010 study by the USDA found that for every $1 billion of added SNAP funding, between 8,900 and 17,000 jobs were created. By contrast, another study found that for every $1 billion in cuts, 11,437 jobs would be destroyed.
WHAT IS SNAP?
SNAP stands for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. SNAP is a federal program that helps millions of low-income Americans put food on the table. Across the United States there are 9.5 million families with children on SNAP. It is the largest program working to fight hunger in America.
HOW DOES SNAP WORK?
SNAP provides timely, targeted, and temporary benefits to people in need so that Americans have access to nutritious food. SNAP responds quickly to changes in our population, growing in response to increases in poverty and unemployment, and shrinking as the need is met and reduced. SNAP is administered by the states, which have considerable discretion to adapt the program to best meet the needs of their residents.
In order to apply for SNAP, you must fall at or below certain income guidelines listed below. Household size is determined by the number of people you prepare, eat, and share meals with.

Second Harvest Food Bank is working alongside Feeding America to bring SNAP application assistance to our community. Nearly 15% of people who qualify for SNAP are not accessing the benefits because they are unsure how. SHFB is here to assist with your application process either over the phone or in-person. In doing so, we can make sure your application is properly filled out and ready for review. Please remember, it can take up to 30 days to be approved or denied.
