Not only is it the largest city, it is also the county seat of Jasper County, a county located in central Georgia. Jasper County is located in the north central part of the state of Georgia and it is only 61 miles south of the city of Atlanta. During the 2010 census, the population of Monticello was recorded at 2,657; however estimates from 2016 show a decrease in population to approximately 2,618 residents.
