Summer Readiness -At Mercy, we believe in setting every student up for success, which is why we offer our specialized Readiness Summer Program. Designed to provide targeted instruction in English and/or Math, this program ensures that every student has the foundation they need to thrive in the upcoming school year. The Mercy High School Readiness Summer Program provides instruction in English and/or Math for those who need additional preparation for the school year. Throughout your four years at Mercy, you will take a wide range of courses. You will have the opportunity to explore new interests and develop your talents, whatever they may be! Placement Testing: All students who would like to be placed in a higher-level math, English, language, or biology* course must take a placement test. Students who would like to be placed in a higher-level language course must take the placement test. Any student who does not take the language placement test will be automatically placed in the first level.*Students who placed into Honors Biology may request to test into AP Biology. Visual and Performing Arts Leveling Days and Portfolio Submission Information: Recorded demo or digital portfolios may be submitted for placement into a higher level VPA course:

• Choir:Due Monday, April 15- Video submission of two songs of your choice and "Happy Birthday" in acappella
• Dance:Tuesday, April 9, 3:30PMin Grassilli Dance Room
• Art & Ceramics - Submit a digital link of your portfolioto the Mercy Art Department by Monday, April 15at MercyVPA@mercyhsb.com.
  • Ceramics - Portfolio Requirements to advance from level 1 to 2 in Art or Ceramics:
    • Proof of proficiency in hand building (3 or more projects) showing different skills including: pinch, coil, and slab. Proof of proficiency on the wheel (4 or more projects) showing different skills including but not limited to: bowl within a bowl, minimum 6 inch tall pots, wheel thrown teapot with a lid, etc.

  • Art - A portfolio of 9-10 pieces that demonstratesunderstanding of basic elements and principlesas well as the ability to use a variety of media. The portfolio must include the following artwork of any size:

    • 2 Graphite drawings demonstrating an understanding of gradation
    • 2 Paintings in watercolor
    • 1-2 Paintings in acrylic
    • 2 Drawings in any medium, still life
    • 1 Portrait
    • 1 Paper collage
    • 1 Scratchboard or relief print

iPad

The iPad is a requirement for all students for the 2023-2024school year as well as Mercy High School summer programs.

• iPad Specifications:Mercy requires the iPad, iPad Air or iPad Pro with at least 128GB of memory. Do not purchase an iPad Mini. iPad model must not be more than four years old.
• Apple ID: Please create an Apple ID using your Mercy email address (once your receive it). This is the Apple ID that your iPad should be logged into.

Additional Accessories and Devices

• Required items:
  • StylusApple Pencil is HIGHLY recommended.(Please make sure it is labeled with the student’s name)
  • Keyboard (compatible with the iPad)
• Optional items:
  • Portable charger for the iPad
  • Laptop (students may bring one in addition to their iPad)
  • Headphones/earpods(required for some classes)

Apps

Please do not purchase or download apps until your iPad is logged in with your Mercy Apple ID. In addition to the list below, teachers will provide a list of apps at the start of the school year.

• The following required apps need to be downloaded prior to Orientation (or summer school):

  • Google Drive

  • Google Docs
  • Google Sheets

*Notability requires a subscription. The free version is not sufficient since this app is used for all notes, worksheets, and handouts at Mercy. Please make sure that your iPad is logged into your Mercy Apple ID before you subscribe to Notability.

Skirt - Mercy plaid skirt
Pants - Navy and khakipants
Shorts - Navy and khaki Bermuda shorts
Polo Shirt - White or grey Mercy polo
Outerwear - Navy Mercy sweater, navy Mercy vest, Mercy spirit wear
Socks - White, black, navy, or gray socks
Tights - Black or navy solid colored tights
Leggings - Solid black full-length leggings with socks may be worn under skirt
Shoes - Predominantly white, navy blue, and black shoes

Formal Uniform:

Skirt - Mercy plaid skirt (may not be shorter than 5inches above the top of the knee)
Pants - Navy and khaki pants (traditional cut, chino style or relaxed fit, cotton twill pants. Must be bootcut or have a flare, no skinny or ripped pants)

Transportation information can be accessed in the enrollment forms. *Routes will be finalized based on expressed family interests when newly enrolling students complete the transportation survey withintheir enrollment forms.

All Mercy students are required to complete 22 hours of service each year. Students can complete these hours over the summer for the following school year.For Summer Hours: keep track of your hours, dates, and person of contact with email address. You will learn how to enter your hours in the fall during your religion classes.
