Medical Billing and Coding Program Mission and Goals
Mission: To prepare program graduates with the technical knowledge and professional skills needed to obtain employment as entry-level Medical Billers or Coders.
Goal 1: Upon program completion, students will be able to demonstrate the professional skills needed to complete a typical day as an entry-level medical biller or coder.
Learning Objective 1.1 - Students will obtain the procedural and interpersonal skills required to work effectively in a medical back-office or billing setting.
Learning Objective 1.2 - Students will demonstrate the critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to work effectively in a medical back-office or billing setting.
Goal 2: Upon program completion, students will be able to demonstrate the technical skills needed to complete a typical day as an entry-level medical biller or coder.
Learning Objective 2.1 - Students will accurately complete data entry, review diagnostic and procedural codes, review clinical procedure notes, and process medical insurance claims.
Learning Objective 2.2 - Students will properly receive insurance payments, process rejected claims, follow up on outstanding accounts receivable, and minimize debt write-offs.
Goal 3: Upon program completion, students will be able to demonstrate the communication skills needed to complete a typical day as an entry-level medical assistant.
Learning Objective 3.1 - Students will use proper medical terminology, abbreviations, and acronyms when describing human anatomy, pathology, diagnoses, and procedures.
Learning Objective 3.2 - Students will compose emails, office memos, and insurance claim adjudication letters using proper business tone, verbiage, grammar, and spelling.

Medical Billing and Coding Program
Externship Disclosures
Students may have to conform to additional requirements to participate in externship at their assigned site, such as:
- Complete a background check.
- Complete a drug screening.
- Travel to a geographically dispersed externship site.
NCC maintains liability insurance that offers coverage for any injuries a student may cause to an employee or patient of a clinical site while on externship. Coverage does not cover self-inflicted injuries sustained by the student.
