Overview

The lineup of liquid crystal microdisplays from Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation (SSS) includes the SXRD™ (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display) reflective type liquid crystal display panel that realizes high resolution and high contrast ratio, and the BrightEra™ transmissive type High Temperature p-Si TFT LCD (hereinafter called “HTPS”), the strengths of which are high luminance and high light fastness. These contribute to advances in projectors by utilizing SSS's original backplane design technology and high light fastness TFT technology.

Features

Selection of two types of liquid crystal devices

A lineup of two types of liquid crystal devices - the reflective type SXRD™ and the transmissive type BrightEra™. The type can be selected to fit the application.

BrightEra:Transmissive type

Reflective type liquid crystal display device SXRD

The SXRD utilizes SSS’s original fine pixel pitch technology, pixel flattening technology and inorganic alignment technology to achieve a compact size, high reflectivity and high contrast ratio performance.

Features of SXRD

• High definition: Full HD (5,976 ppi)
• High contrast ratio: 2,000:1 or higher (Typical)
• High light reliability: Uses inorganic alignment layer film

Transmissive type liquid crystal display device BrightEra

The BrightEra utilizes SSS’s original fine fabrication technologies to achieve a high aperture ratio and high light efficiency. The implementation of inorganic alignment film greatly enhances light fastness performance and achieves high reliability.

Features of BrightEra

• Supports high brightness: Higher aperture ratio through TFT miniaturization technology (7,000 lm, 0.64-type, WUXGA)
• High contrast: Normally black mode, VA liquid crystal, optical compensation plate integration technology (750:1, 0.64-type, WUXGA)
• High light fastness: Uses inorganic alignment film

High resolution signal processing IC for projectors

SSS's unique high image quality signal processing function maximizes the characteristics of SXRD/BrightEra. In addition to the keystone correction that is found on many general projectors, there is also a “geometric correction function” for correction to an undistorted image when the projection screen is curved, and an “edge blending function” to eliminate the feeling of joints when multiple projectors are used to create a single image. These functions make it possible to increase the freedom in the projector installation.
