‘House Party’ first came out in 1990, starring the famous hip-hop duo Kid ‘N Play, and has since developed a cult following after growing into a franchise. So far, there are six House Party movies, with one extra film that doesn’t really belong to the series but features the same duo. Without further ado, here are all seven House Party movies in order.
‘House Party’ movies in order by release date
As I’ve mentioned, there are seven movies in total that belong to the ‘House Party’ franchise. If you want to jump in immediately and start watching, here’s the complete list in order by release date:

You might’ve noticed that the only movie not having ‘House Party’ in the title is ‘Class Act.’ That is because the film does not officially belong to the ‘House Party’ series but features the two lead actors (hip-hop stars Kid ‘N Play) in the main role. Despite playing totally different characters, many fans still consider it to be a part of the franchise.
Throughout the rest of the article, I’ll explain how each of these movies is connected and lay out the best way to watch them all. Keep in mind that potential spoilers are possible throughout the rest of the article!
Are ‘House Party’ movies connected? What’s the best order to watch them?
Three movies from this list are not connected to the other four. The first – ‘Class Act’ – we’ve already elaborated; it’s a movie starring Kid ‘N Play as totally different characters and isn’t a part of the ‘House Party’ franchise storywise – it simply has the same feel to it, and people like to watch it together with the ‘House Party’ franchise.
The second film that isn’t a part of the main series in terms of events and characters is ‘House Party 4: Down to the Last Minute.’ This is a story of two young teenage musicians and their own group of friends with little to no association with the previous three films. A sequel to this movie was envisioned but was never produced, leaving ‘House Party 4’ as a standalone entry to the franchise.
Finally, the third movie on the list that isn’t connected to the remaining four is ‘House Party’ (2023). This movie does not feature Kid ‘N Play at all, apart from a little cameo role-playing themselves – it is somewhat of a reboot, or a remake, or an update, if you will, to the ‘House Party’ franchise revolving around different characters in the modern era.
It has a similar plot – two guys throwing a massive party as we watch how things get complicated and crazy along the way – but other than a few nods to the original films; there’s not much of a connection to the rest of the franchise.
In fact, the film didn’t receive high marks at all, so you won’t really miss out on a lot if you don’t watch it. But, if you’re a fan of ‘House Party,’ give it a shot – you might enjoy it more than the critics and reviewers.
As for the four remaining movies – from ‘House Party’ (1990) to ‘House Party: Tonight’s the Night’ (2013) – they are connected and follow Kid ‘N Play as they grow up but still fall into their same old patterns – throwing or attending massive parties and being total goofs.
In the 2013 film, though, Kid ‘N Play only has a cameo role where we learn that they did become popular, successful hip-hop artists and producers, as they wanted to in the previous films.
Seeing that the movies’ chronological order of events is the same as their release dates, the best way to watch the ‘House Party’ movie series is in release order. You’ll get to see the main characters grow and develop from teenagers to successful – even married – adults.

If you’re still confused about the connection and timeline of the ‘House Party’ franchise, I’ll make it as simple as possible for you. So, the timeline of events is chronological if you follow the release dates. However, the three movies do not belong to the same timeline or series of events, at least as they feature different characters.
Those three movies are standalone projects and can be viewed separately and independently from the rest of the series or each other. Meaning we have a four-part chronological series of sequels and three standalone features. The chronological list would, hence, look like this:

Will there be more ‘House Party’ movies?
Seeing that the last movie in the franchise that came out this year – which was sort of a remake or a reboot of the series – was kind of a flop (4.4/10 IMDb score, 28% Rotten Tomatoes), I highly doubt that there will be more ‘House Party’ films in the future.
I mean, the film was slated for a Max release, and then it was decided that it would get a theatrical debut. Still, it raked in only about $9 million, which I believe is nowhere near the desired profit.
Still, there has been a 12-year gap between ‘House Party 4’ and ‘House Party 5,’ and then a ten-year gap between that film and the 2023 reboot. So, who knows? Maybe somewhere down the line, someone decides to do another ‘House Party’ movie again. But, as things stand right now, it’s a wrap for the franchise.
