1000cc ATVs (Best AND Worst for 2023!) - Off-Road Official (2024)

Power and speed is the name of the game when it comes to ATVs for many outdoor enthusiasts.

And for those who enjoy challenging terrain or high-speed riding, the 1000cc ATV class is the cream of the crop when it comes to the fastest quads available.

This class does have a minimal number of options to choose from and most are quite expensive, but a couple of them do make the list of best ATVs for the money.

This guide will detail each of the following 1000cc ATV options available for 2023 in order from best to worst overall.

  • Can Am Renegade 1000
  • Can Am Outlander 1000
  • Polaris Sportsman XP 1000
  • Polaris Scrambler XP 1000
  • CFMoto CForce 1000 Overland
  • Hisun Tactic 1000
  • Argo Xplorer XRT 1000
  • TGB Blade 1000

Benefits & Drawbacks

For those considering a quad in the 1000cc class, there are some benefits and drawbacks to consider.

Benefits

  • Power and speed hard to beat
  • Options with Two-Up chassis offer room for passenger
  • Added cargo space
  • Best towing and hauling capacities

Drawbacks

  • Much more expensive
  • Bigger engines require bulkier build style with less maneuverability
  • Heavier weights makes them tougher to handle and stop on the trail
  • Longer chassis makes for less stability on trail

Can Am Renegade 1000 & Outlander 1000

The Can Am models have to rank up top for me. Are they the best values? No. But they are the best overall machines from a performance perspective.

They feature the most impressive engines, are clutched the best when it comes to faster trail riding, and tend to stand up better to the abuse of hard trail riding as well.

And Can Am offers the most variety in terms of 1000cc machines, with two Renegade models and seven Outlander models.

There are also both two-up and single chassis models to choose from, giving those who don’t normally ride with a passenger the choice of a sportier body style.

Can Am Renegade 1000

The Can Am Renegade features two different 1000cc models and starts at $15,499.

The Renegade is your go-to if your top priority is speed and racing, with only the Outlander close competition among the 1000cc ATVs in that regard.

But they’re also pretty much unbeatable and unstoppable on the trail, offering 91 horsepower and able to reach top speeds of between 65 and 75 mph in stock condition depending upon the model.

Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 & Scrambler XP 1000S

While Polaris offers the second-best variety of 1000cc ATVs, their prices have really gone vertical over the last few years essentially drowning out any performance to price value.

And while Polaris ATVs are high quality and the most comfortable to ride in the industry, they don’t have the ability to push the limits performance-wise in the same way Can Ams can.

Polaris Sportsman XP 1000

The Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 offers four different 1000cc models to choose from and starts at $17,799.

These Sportsman models are the best in the business for tough trail riding, with their wide 55” stance offering benefits that no other models do when it comes to extremely rocky or rutted trails.

Adding to this is the fact that it offers the best ground clearance in its class, and an extremely powerful engine capable of producing 89 horsepower.

The Scrambler XP 1000S starts at $17,799 and features the same 55” wide stance as its Sportsman brethren, making it one of the best options in the industry for rough trail riding and stability.

It also offers the same impressive ground clearance and engine output of 89 horsepower.

Despite the names, the Scrambler is the more sporty looking of the two Polaris 1000cc models and is lighter, making it a bit more nimble. It can hit an impressive top speed of around 80 mph.

CFMoto CForce 1000 Overland

1000cc ATVs (Best AND Worst for 2023!) - Off-Road Official (3)

Looking at the CForce 1000 Overland, you sure wouldn’t know it to be the least expensive 1000cc ATV on the market. But it’s price tag is just that, at a very reasonable $10,199.

With rugged but sporty body styling and chock full of accessories like many other CFMoto CForce ATVs, this two-up model is ready to take on any terrain and features a rear passenger seat.

While it’s one of the heaviest and bulkiest ATVs on the market, its 963cc engine with an output of around 79 HP and loaded with low-end torque make it an excellent trail option. And it can reach a top speed of between 75 and 78 mph.

There’s little doubt that between this model’s impressive performance and coming loaded with accessories, it would be much more expensive if it was a bigger-name model.

All things considered, the CForce 1000 Overland is surely the best value 1000cc ATV on the market these days.

Hisun Tactic 1000 EPS

1000cc ATVs (Best AND Worst for 2023!) - Off-Road Official (4)

The Hisun Tactic 1000 EPS is a two-up model featuring a rear passenger seat, and comes with a price tag of $12,499.

This model is powered by a 976cc V-Twin engine, with an estimated output of around 65 – 70 horsepower.

Its power output aligns more closely with models in the 800cc class than its 1000cc peers, making it the least powerful model on this list.

Even so, its reasonable price tag makes it attractive. And while a less-familiar model, you can find these models at multiple dealers across the United States.

Argo Xplorer XRT 1000 & TGB Blade 1000

The Argo Xplorer XRT 1000 and TGB Blade 1000 are essentially the same machine, just offered under different names but at the same price of $12,999 each.

Both are produced by Taiwan Golden Bee Company (TGB) who has been manufacturing 1000cc ATVs since 2015. In 2018, TGB partnered with Canadian-based Argo to bring these ATVs to North America under their name.

The TGB and Argo 1000cc ATVs are last on the list not due to quality or performance, but simply because they’re almost impossible to find in the United States.

TGB are not available in North America. Argo is, but their dealer network is currently extremely thin, making it rare to encounter one in the wild.

That said, both models do still offer impressive power and performance. But even as less-familiar vehicles, you won’t find much of a price break on them.
